Jeremiah 17:9-10

9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? 10 “I the LORD search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”

Hey, y'all youth pastor Cameron here, when I was 13 years old I got saved and surrendered my life fully, at a youth camp to a sermon about not trusting your heart. We are told our entire lives "just trust your heart." You could be going for a relationship with someone who is tempting you to have sex before marriage or looking at others and wanting what they have. Letting that become the desire of your own heart. We do all these things while not even giving a thought to the desires of God's heart. The pastor who gave that sermon at youth camp gave the example of a meal that looks very tasty and would fill your current desire even fill your stomach for the day.

Genesis 25:29-34

29 Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!” (Therefore his name was called Edom.) 31 Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright now.” 32 Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” 33 Jacob said, “Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

Esau gives up his entire inheritance for one meal. The enemy wants to make us feel like we need to react hastily to how worn out we feel. We need to be getting fed by the Lord, through bible reading, prayer, and talking to each other about God. Yet we consistently look for other ways of feeding our emptiness. Our hearts are deceitful, we have to stop trusting our hearts. If you have been doing so that is the past and tomorrow is the future. We need to be concerned with today and how we are doing presently to seek God's heart.
